Port St. Lucie has three major hospital systems, all requiring AHA BLS certification for clinical staff.

Cleveland Clinic Tradition Hospital

Cleveland Clinic Tradition opened in 2013 and expanded in 2017. The 177-bed acute care facility serves as the flagship Cleveland Clinic location on the Treasure Coast, offering emergency care, surgery, cardiology, orthopedics, and neurosciences.

BLS requirement: Cleveland Clinic requires “Proof of Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) must be presented upon hire” for registered nurses. LPNs, patient care technicians, surgical technicians, and monitor technicians all require current AHA BLS certification. Even Patient Companions must obtain “Heartsaver Level of Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA)” within three months of hire.

HCA Florida St. Lucie Hospital

HCA Florida St. Lucie Hospital employs more than 350 physicians and 800 staff members. The hospital offers a birthing center, cardiac catheterization lab, cancer care, orthopedic and spine services, and a 24-hour emergency department with a dedicated Senior-Friendly ER.

BLS requirement: HCA Florida requires “Current American Heart Association BLS (Basic Life Support) certification” for nursing and clinical support positions.

Florida Coast Medical Center

Florida Coast Medical Center opened in September 2025 as the newest hospital in Port St. Lucie. The $200 million, 220,000-square-foot facility features 54 private patient rooms and offers 24-hour emergency care, neurosciences, orthopedics, spine care, robotics, general surgery, urology, and advanced cardiac care. The hospital is part of the Palm Beach Health Network and Tenet Healthcare system.

BLS requirement: Florida Coast Medical Center is actively hiring RNs, CNAs, and allied health professionals. All clinical positions require current BLS certification.

Dental Jobs in Port St. Lucie

Port St. Lucie has a high concentration of dental practices in the St. Lucie West and Tradition areas. Unlike hospital jobs where BLS is an employer requirement, dental professionals face a state licensure requirement for CPR training.

The Florida Board of Dentistry requires dental hygienists and dental assistants to maintain “current proof of training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) at the basic support level, including one-rescuer and two-rescuer CPR for adults, children, and infants; the use of an automatic external defibrillator (AED) and the use of ambu-bags.”

The Board specifies that CPR training and certification must come from “the American Heart Association, the American Red Cross or an entity with equivalent requirements.” This is not optional—it is required for licensure and renewal.

Dialysis Jobs in Port St. Lucie

DaVita and Fresenius Medical Care operate dialysis centers throughout Port St. Lucie and the Treasure Coast. Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) provide direct patient care during hemodialysis treatments under RN supervision.

BLS requirement: Dialysis PCTs require “BLS certification with the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.” Port St. Lucie ranks among the highest-paying markets in Florida for dialysis technicians.

Home Health and Assisted Living Jobs in Port St. Lucie

Port St. Lucie’s aging population supports a large home health and assisted living industry. Agencies serving the area include Always Best Care, Senior Helpers, Tradition Home Health Care, VNA of Florida, Preferred Care at Home, and many others. Skilled nursing facilities include Life Care Center of Port St. Lucie, Palm Garden of Port St. Lucie, and Tiffany Hall Nursing and Rehab Center.

BLS requirement: Home health agencies typically require CNAs and HHAs to hold “Current BLS CPR Certification (obtained in-person, not online).” Skilled nursing facilities require “CPR certification upon hire or obtain during orientation.”

The emphasis on in-person CPR training is important. Many employers in this sector explicitly reject online-only courses because they lack the hands-on skills evaluation required by healthcare standards.

Nursing and Allied Health Students

Students at Keiser University, Indian River State College (IRSC Pruitt Campus in PSL), and other programs need AHA BLS certification before starting clinical rotations. • Hands-on skills evaluation with a manikin

• Adult, child, and infant CPR techniques

• One-rescuer and two-rescuer protocols

• AED (automated external defibrillator) use

• Bag-valve-mask ventilation

HR departments at these facilities will verify your certification. Showing up with the wrong card means you cannot start work until you complete the correct CPR training.
